VA Adult Day Care Benefit

Cost of Adult Day Care may be free depending upon eligibility.  The VA Benefit Aid & Attendance pays up to $2,846 per month for qualified veterans and their surviving spouses.  

Are you eligible for VA Adult Day Care Benefit

If you get a VA pension and you meet at least one of the requirements listed below, you may be eligible for this benefit.

At least one of these must be true:

  • You need another person to help you perform daily activities, like bathing, feeding, and dressing, or
  • You have to stay in bed—or spend a large portion of the day in bed—because of illness, or
  • You are a patient in a nursing home due to the loss of mental or physical abilities related to a disability, or
  • Your eyesight is limited (even with glasses or contact lenses you have only 5/200 or less in both eyes; or concentric contraction of the visual field to 5 degrees or less)l Security Income

The form helps you determine how much support you need and how you can incorporate an adult day care in your care plan.  It helps you review your role, responsibility, as well as evaluate your stress level.

Caregiver Support Services

The VA may be able to provide you with caregiver services if you have many responsibilities in taking care of your loved one, such making doctor appointments, driving them to the doctor; help them get dressed, bathe, get in and out of bed, or feed themselves.  Check out a list of available resources.
